Market analysis
To conduct a market analysis, select the “Market Analysis” tab. From this tab, users can select compensation elements to include and filter the database to download compensation information for either a single job or groups of jobs, and optionally compare their own organization’s data to the market data if they participated in the survey. Both the Single Job and Multi Jobs reports are exported as Excel files and include three sheets: Report parameters, Report results, and Participant list.
The Report parameters sheet summarizes the filters and parameters selected to generate the report as well as key statistics. The statistics found on this tab are the Number of organizations, Number of incumbents, Mode standard weekly hours, % Unionized, Eligibility for short-term incentive / variable plan(s), and Eligibility for long-term incentive / variable plan(s). Depending on the report, a Single Job report provides details of the Job Bank role selected and the Multi Job report shows the Data level selected.
Dimensions
Section titled “Dimensions”First select the compensation elements to be included in the report by clicking the Dimensions dropdown and individually selecting the desired compensation elements. To include all compensation elements, do not make any selections. Definitions for each compensation element can be found below. All dollar outputs are in Canadian dollars.
Adjustment factor
Section titled “Adjustment factor”To adjust the data in the report, input a percentage into the field “Adjustment factor”. This can be used to adjust all dollar dimensions for the entire dataset, such as to age the data or apply a regional differential.
Weighting method
Section titled “Weighting method”Two data weightings are available to generate the reports:
1.Incumbent: Every incumbent in the dataset has equal weighting in the calculations of the report’s statistics. 2.Organization: Up to five values per organization are used in the calculations of the report’s statistics for each job. The five values are representative of the diversity of data from each organization.
To select a weighting method, select the “Weighting Method” dropdown and choose “Incumbent” or “Organization”. The platform defaults to “Organization” weighting, to not skew the results towards any organizations with higher incumbent counts.
Custom percentile
Section titled “Custom percentile”You can add a custom percentile to the reporting outputs between the 5th percentile and the 95th percentile. The standard percentiles included in outputs are the 10th percentile, 25th percentile, 50th percentile (median), 75th percentile, and 90th percentile. Standard and custom percentiles are subject to data suppression rules.
Your organization’s data
Section titled “Your organization’s data”If your organization participated in the ebenchmarking survey, you can include your data for any jobs your organization matched to in the reporting outputs, as well as the variance between your data and the market data, enabling quick analysis. Toggle on “Show my organizations data?” to enable this feature. If you added a custom percentile, this feature compares your organization’s data to the custom percentile. Otherwise, it shows the variance of your data to the 50th percentile (median) of the market.
Filters
Section titled “Filters”You can apply filters to the dataset to narrow down the organizations included in the output:
- Geographic dimension: Select the incumbent regions to include in the report. If no regions are selected, all will be included in the dataset. Note that as this is a filter that is applied to the incumbent-level data, it does not modify the participant list shown for data privacy.
- Organization dimension: These filters are all applied at the organization level and modify the participant list shown. If no selections are made for any one dimension, all options will be included in the dataset.
- Ownership type: Select the ownership structure types to include in the report.
- Industry: Select the industries in which the organizations operate to include in the report.
- Permanent headcount: Select the headcount range to include in the report.
- Apply filter on financial measure?: Toggle on this to add financial measure filters. If no selections are made for any one dimension, all options will be included in the dataset.
- Asset under management: Select the assets under management range to include in the report.
- Revenue / budget: Select the revenue / operating budget range to include in the report.
Single job report
Section titled “Single job report”The single job report generates a report for individual jobs from the ecomp Job Bank. To get this type of report, select “Single Job”. If you know the name or code of the role from the ecomp Job Bank, you can enter that directly. Otherwise, you can browse for a job in the ecomp Job Bank by clicking on “Select Job” and typing in key words. After selecting the job, download the report by clicking “Download job report”.
Multi jobs report
Section titled “Multi jobs report”The multi jobs report allows user to download data for multiple jobs in one report. You can do this by either adding individual jobs to the report one at a time or by adding groups of jobs. To choose between these methods, under the “Selection Method” dropdown, select “Individual Jobs” or “Groups of Jobs”.
For both selection methods, you will need to select the data level:
- Job: Provides data by each specific jobs code.
- Job sub-family and career level: Provides data rolled up by career level within each subfamily. For example, you can download a report for all incumbents in the Administrative Support (ADA) subfamily at career level S2. When using the “Individual Jobs” method, only the incumbents matched to the job codes added to the report will be included in the output roll-up. To include broader data for the desired job sub-family(ies) and career level(s), use the “Groups of Jobs” method.
- Job family and career level: Provides data rolled up by career level within each family. For example, you can download a report for all incumbents in the Administrative (AD) family at career level M1. When using the “Individual Jobs” method, only the incumbents matched to the job codes added to the report will be included in the output roll-up. To include broader data for the desired job family(ies) and career level(s), use the “Groups of Jobs” method.
- Career level: Provides data rolled up by career level. For example, you can download a report for all incumbents in career level P2. When using the “Individual Jobs” method, only the incumbents matched to the job codes added to the report will be included in the output. To include broader data for the desired career level(s), use the “Groups of Jobs” method.
With the Individual Jobs method, users can select a collection of up to 30 jobs individually. For Groups of Jobs method, you can add jobs to the report based on job family, job subfamily, and/or career level.
